Fascinated by the detritus that accumulates around urban sprawl, Environmental and Landscape photographer Adrian Holland develops work that explores the imperfections of life. His work investigates the contradiction between the reverence in which we hold our history and its monuments, and the disdain with which we treat our current environment. Highly skilled and practiced in all forms of image taking, Holland is able to capture both the most fleeting of instances alongside those that require the meticulous planning this is most evident in his large format work. Acutely aware of his own environmental impact and that of modern production methods, Holland has adopted the traditional handmade processes of Salt and Albumen printing, constantly experimenting with both materials and method. He is constantly pushing the boundaries of the process in an effort to eliminate its unpredictable nature and refine the final image. Often including materials found on-site, Adrian’s work either in method or material share a unique synthesis with the subjects that he captures or the circumstance in which he finds them.
